I'm looking to upgrade an old Core 2 Duo machine in the house with a Radeon HD 7xxxx or HD 8xxxx card, as this only has space on a single slot PCIe 2 x16 and no additional power; I keep seeing on ebay Dell branded cards at a low prices, but as this is a non-Dell machine, does anyone know if it would work?

Thanks

I see, so more like a Windows issue. So it might work fine in Linux but not Windows (it a dual boot 99% Linux machine).
You would need drivers for the gpu to work correctly though windows may install default drivers with limited functionality.

Linux i have no idea about but i would asume you need some sort of driver .

I got the card and it works fine in the non-Dell machine, haven't tried it in Windows though.

The kids wanted to play a flight sim, not bad an improvement in graphics for £20 upgrade!
