Hey. so I was just interested as to what you all do with your old hardware?

Do you hoard it away, or use it in other setups.

Or do you sell it on to go towards new hardware, if so how do you sell it?

Looking forward to what you all do.

Personally, I keep certain thing's sometimes, as they "can" be usefull...

a lot of people buy the hardware, use it for 6 months or less, then sell it on at a decent price while it still has value, so they can afford something newer and better.

You cn't access them yet, but there is a members market on this forum as well, where you can buy/sell hardware as well :) a lot of people use that also.

I tend to use my hardware till it crashes into the ground, though I do occasionally sell parts on the bay or mm.

I've found good uses for my old hardware (router, server and a pc for the family)

If it gets too old or slow I tend to just bin it. I also keep a small stack of hardware as spare parts in case something goes wrong with one of the machines in the house so I can still have them working while the parts are on rma. :)

i'm usually a hoarder but that members market sounds cool so i might consider it if i become eligible.

i also like the idea of keeping some spare stuff around, you never know just in case.

I normally just sell them to people on a local forum for my city, or to my RL friends, but just recently me and my brother decided to build a third PC out of spare bits (x1950 Pro, amd 3800 X2 etc) for a home server/media centre.

I hoard, rebuild and sell. Sometimes you just bin or give them away. Depends what it is. I have roughly 8 network cards which are pretty much useless, but one of them is a dual gigabit card which may come in handy one day.

I tend to hoard, then give it away/use it for spares.

I think i've still got my old P166mmx + motherboard/ram in a spares box somewhere :p

I had some old client PCs which I used as rocket mortars last firework night. What was more interesting, I put them at the front for taking down the dump (sorry recycling center) and they were all nicked within a space of a few days.

Like Werewolf, I tend to save everything. When somebody asks for bits I usually give them away. I give away 3-4 complete rigs per year using salvaged parts. This year I've already given one away.

I spent a couple of weeks temping at a 3-man computer support company, and they cleared out 3 old BBC's which disapeered from the skip.

I tend to hoard stuff that I really don't need. e.g. half a stock cooling fan from my x800, a 56K PCI modem, and a ten year old 6 gig hard drive which is actually working and still in my machine! And then there's the P2 350MHz paperweight...

PK!

I tend to save stuff too "just incase", although as I have only just got on the PCI-E band waggon all my old graphics cards, CPU HSF's and DDR ram are going to waste! Although I did use most parts of my old PC to upgrade a friends server so I could use my PCI Nebula TV card (doesnt support VISTA), to stream digiTV to my laptop.

I still have my 286, 633 mhz AMD and 3.0 Intel Celeron machines so i guess i hoard them :D :D

Edit: forgot to mention i also still have my 128k Spectrum +2 in the loft somewhere :)
