Old Hardware

I have a large box in the corner of my room at home too

I tend to reassemble bits n bobs n give linux ago (though it a complete waste of time as i cant use any distro other than gentoo which always is way better on my main pc)

Unless some of it is good old school overclockers (or isnt having "problems" like my 939 board/proc in the box) you wont see much of a return on ebay, a few quid here and there.

Im tempted to donate some of it to charity/RAG at somepoint though....
 
I just turn them into projects, get halfway through then find another that takes my attention :P

I can't give stuff away, people always think it's faulty.

So far have a fileserver/torrent box running Arch Linux, media PC /2nd gaming (running arch) PC and my main gaming PC. Also have a crappy firewall box running arch that is on a loner to a mates dad.

I have so many bits of crap hardware and cables hoarded i wish i'd just get rid... so does the mrs ;)

I'm sure you could find something to do with it, if you dont want it, give it to a charity/someone less fortunate.
 
Our old hardware here tends to filter down to other members of the family/friends.

For example I upgrade my machine, my dad gets the bits taken out, his then get given to my older nephew etc ;)

I've actually just had a minor sort out of my parts box (and need to do a proper one), throwing out an old P166 with motherboard, SCSI CDRW (about 4x from 99) etc
 
i have an old pentium 3 system which i recently upgraded with my old pentium 4 system :D and what do i do with it... STRESS TEST :D
How hot can i get it under load? 55'c+
How fast will that hsf spin? over 4500 RPM :D


EDIT: superpi is calculating 32M :D if any1 if wondering... and i didnt let it finish, i got bored :)
EDIT2: heres my p3 stuff + box containing old (but broke) skt478 board, thinking about recycling these as soon as i 'can be bothered' to find out where the place is and then its whether i 'can be bothered' to take old stuff there :D

im lazy :p

ooo (i know this thread is old) but does anyone have any sd ram lying about?

i have a dual p2 400 server begging to get to the max 512mb (i thing id be wet if it was 1 gig) ram.

iv always wondered what dual proc half life gameing was like..... (especialy with a pci gfx card and wacky looking scsi discs that i havnt seen since i was 5)

We've just had a hardware purge that Stalin would be proud of (6 cases, some with mobo's still attached, and 5 monitors were the big victims, but lots of smaller kit bit the dust too), but I'll have a look. Any particular type, speed, colour or flavour?
Yer only up the road and all, but a coula first class stamps would still get it to you PDQ.
(note to mods: not discussing a deal, it's a donation, nobody coulc charge for SD Ram and sleep at night ;) )
