Old headset died on me. Time for something new!

I lied. My old headset stills works (sort of). It seems like the wire is partially loose inside the cable that is connected to the volume control, and only works properly when its bent at certain angles. I've temp fixed it by placing the wire in the volume control 'clip', and keeping it at a working angle.

Anyway, I'm obviously looking to get something new. Something in the range of £35-£60. I mainly game with it, but do love listening to music. I'm not crazily into music that I'll go crazy if its not perfect.

Needs to obviously have a microphone attached, pref noise cancellation too. Goes without saying that I'd want the best quality within my budget :)

I really don't know much about headsets. Currently using a Razer Carcharias, which has definitely served me well. As I said, it still works, but I don't know for how long.

Forget headsets, they're garbage.

Then read through one of the dozen (at least) near identical threads from the past fortnight :)

To summarise, at your budget get a CAL! with a DX.com clip-on mic.

+1

It doesn't matter if you're into music or not, there is no excuse for buying headsets, they are just too terrible!
I'd suggest Superlux HD668b with a that ^ clip on mic :)

To be fair the new Hesh 2.0 isn't even that bad by Skullcandy standards and they've been headed in the right direction... The Aviators remain garbage though.

Having owned a pair of Hesh 2.0 for more than a year, I can confirm that they are utterly terrible, miserable, headphones. Granted they were an improvement over the original Hesh (which I also owned for even longer) but still abysmal.

Are you joking or serious? I can't tell.
No I'm dead serious. The Aviators are excellent. I own them and they are the best bang for buck I own. Balanced warm sound, nice tonality in the mids. Only problem I had was a slight grain issue but that was when they where compared to me D2000/D5000 Mad Dog and other high end stuff.

Skull candy get a lot of hassell but they are really starting to improve their products. Take it from someone that has close to 40 headphones these are good. They may not be to everyones taste which is the same with all headphones but from a technical standard point they are on par with some good entry level headphones.

Wanna hear a real joke? I own the beats Solo..now they are pretty bad.

It's just that every pair of skullcandys I've tried have sounded terrible.

They have a much better team behind them now. I prefer the Aviator to the M50, HM5 and CAL.

Their Mix Master headphones are also excellent but they had crack issues. The whole stiff plastic design just doesn't work. They have redesigned them though. They are quite balanced similar to the K550 with a more warm tilt and a more full sound.

Sadly with all the Skull Candy hate some may never give them a chance. Look at the new Beats Studio. They are very good but most won't give them an honest try.

I'm honestly not sure if you're trolling. Skullcandy are headed in the right direction but to start comparing them to the M50, HM5, Aurvana, K550 etc. is frankly ridiculous and likening the scenario to Beats (another one still going in the right direction but still nowhere near there yet) is not helping your credibility.

I don't really care about credibility. I didn't get into this hobby for people to see me as a credible source.

I stand by what I say. I have the Aviator, D5000, AKG K712 right in front of me now, and later going to have another session with the HD800 and guess what? I still think the Aviator is excellent.

The M50 is probably the most overrated headphone ever that isn't a flagship! it has so many flaws that I just can't enjoy it. The Aviator is smooth, lovely tonality is fairly balanced.

It's pretty ignorant to suggest that just because it's Skull Candy that it isn't good. Now I dislike headfi but I have to agree with their take on the Aviator and many on there that own it also prefer it to the M50.

Unless you own the headphone and have spent many weeks with it it's not accurate just to brush it off. And yes I compared to MMM to the K550 have you heard that headphone?

Just to add about the Hesh 2.0. I'm not sure what to think of them. They just sound like a below entry level set of headphones. I have heard the Skull Candy Crushers they where FUN! I wouldn't call them entry level either but if anyone is looking to rock out without caring about refinement and dynamics then I recommend them.

The Beats Studio 2013 that mentioned are very good. Compared to the Momentum I thought the beats where more musical but a bit less refined. I think from a technical standpoint the Momentum is the superior headphone by a tad. It'd pretty well balanced but it missing it's top end losing in some of the emotion that comes with many tracks.

I think the Studio 2013 competes fine with those headphones although they are over priced by about 50 or so.

Overall I prefer the Studio 2013 to most of the midfi portables like the Momentum, UE6000, with the M100 it's close but I prefer the M100 a tad.

The K550 was one of the most dull headphones I ever had. There was all this talk about an open sound, big stage but it didn't have any of that even in DH.

Glad I didn't buy M50's lol

Sorry to hijack this but I currenty have HD25-1 II, HD 595, HTF 600.

I bought the HTF 600 for when gaming at night (semi closed) and HD 595 for gaming during the day. Now my wife has started getting into all and I am considering the MDR-7506 for her portable cans as when we travel on long distance flights, etc, I use my HD25 and a set of Pioneer SE-A1000 so she can enjoy movies, music and on demand stuff on tablet, etc.

Am I right in picking the MDR-7506 for her portable use and the Pioneers for her in the home use? or should I be looking ats something else?

I will be buying them from amazon.com and getting them shipped to our relatives over there and bringing them back.

Prices are substantially cheaper and not looking to spend more than £100 ish for both.

Shure SRH440 with 940 velour pads or 840 pads. Excellent isolation for travel and durable to doubly up as home and travel. Clean, detailed and great mids. Total cost about 90.

Psycho, I'd say just kill two birds with one stone and get a pair of AKG K551s. They're big but are suitable for public and home use as they're closed and have fantastic noise isolation but retain a respectable sounstage and have recently dropped from £250 down to £100 (would reccomend as I love my K550s which are the same headphone with a different cable). So, bringing the thread back on track (sorry, Psycho), does anyone have any suggestion for a pair of headphones and a clip on mic for less than £60?

They able to be bought on ocuk? Or elsewhere? If so, can you PM links? Having trouble finding them.

I should think we're allowed because if OcUK don't stock it then it's not a competitor link but I am a little hesitant. OcUK do stock a Zalman mic but it's clothes clip on not headphone clip on. Other than that I don't know of any other than the antlion modmic (which seems to be unavailable in the UK).
