old Heat sink needed?!

Hey my parents have an older packard bell and the heatsink for the cpu inside has well broke to say the least .... (the clip that holds it onto the cpu has snapped) does anyone know were or mhat type of P4 cpu socket was used b4 the 775 we use now. need to get a new one... or used.

Socket 478 was before LGA775. Be warned that unlike LGA775 there is also a retaining bracket on the BOARD.

yeah sounds like it's probably 478, i've got an older P4 board and it is any way. As for a replacement it could be a tricky one... my dad's manage to bust his on his old pc and i spent ages looking for one but to no avail gave up in the end and his pc just roasted as it didnt sit properly.
i'm not entiry sure what's broken h/s clip or mounting clip from your post but so long as the plastic clips of the part attached to the board are intact you can probably buy a new h/s and it will attach fine.

there are a few h/s which will fit both. i replaced mine with a zalman 9500led but i'm sure there are cheaper out there

I have an unused stock P4 skt 478 cooler for a 2.4Ghz one (up to 3.2 i think) and a Coolermaster Aero 7 (alu edition) that was sat on said P4 while it was running at 3.4Ghz for 3 years (so its dusty).
I live in south west if you want pick up, or if your willing to wait for me to get some random time I can get to the post office then I can give you the stock one for cost of shipping + a thank you

id get the other guy to do it for you, since i work stupid amounts meaning i dont get much time when the shops are open, so itll take me a week or two.
