Just wondering if using OCLP with an old iMac is enough to keep an iMac secure and updated to use like normal or are there any major red flags?

Within reason, it depends on how old the iMac is and whether you're getting it up to an OS which will still be getting security updates I suppose. The more modern the better really.

That said, I found that the further I pushed a trash can Mac into newer OS's the more little issues you began to see with it, such as visual quirks ( top menu bar lacking smooth transparency near the clock area etc ) , or the performance bogging down at times. I'd definitely say I felt that the trash can ran better on Ventura than Sonoma for those reasons. It was still a usable machine though.

Which iMac? If you trust OCLP, then you can often get onto the latest patched OS, but not always without issue. Check on their website for more details.

I'm using it on a mid-2014 MBP without any major issues. That said, if it was a 'mission critical' machine, I would ditch it for a new one. The new Mac Mini's are excellent value, for example (well, base specs).
