Hi all

I have one of the first iPod Touches....

Although iv updated the software to the latest via iTunes i can't seem to get anything on it...

I mean, where is iMessage, the app store (how does one download apps?!) and why won't it be recognised by Spotify when i connect it to my Imac?

Is this because the old Itouches do not have any of the new software features?

:(

Firstly, as said above, first gen iPod Touches won't support iOS5 I'm afraid, only third and fourth gen will.

Secondly, whilst the latest supported version of iOS is 3.1.3, this is a paid upgrade so unless you've bought it through iTunes, you'll be stuck on 1.1.5 which may explain why you can't access the App Store and so forth. The update to iOS3 is only £2.99 I believe.

I have one, and they're pretty much obsolete these day unfortunately. Just a piece of Apple history.
you cant upgrade to iOS 5, and pretty sure you can upgrade to iOS4 but with limited functions.
I did think i could keep it just for spottify (its the very first one with 8GB so with hardly any space for music :p ) but the app won't work on 1st gen iTouches

I wouldn't necessarily say they are obsolete it depends on what you are looking for in the device.

I have a 16GB 1st Gen iPod Touch, (each time a new generation is released I look at it and decide that for what I use it for I can't justify getting one), and it's still perfectly happy to play music and video. Yes it's running iOS 3.1.3 and can't run all the latest apps ... but as 99% of the time I'm using it I wouldn't be able to connect to a network that doesn't matter to me.
