Just took mu old lap top to bits to salvage some parts, its got a 2.5" 30 gig hard drive in it. Its installed with windows XP yes thats how old it is!
For the life of me i cant remember the password is there a way i can format the drive to clean it from all data without going into the operating system on it?
Think its about 7 years old, oh and i dont need to do it as the drive is worth nothing just wondered if it could be done.
(without using password recovery tools/apps) I know i could get a cable to hook it upto my main PC but will it still ask for the password? or can i format it from the main PC without going into it?

Thanks

Jay

You can just hook it up to your PC with a laptop IDE to desktop IDE cable (assuming it is IDE and not SATA from the age) and you can just format it like that.

Even if you did know the password you wouldnt be able to format it from within Windows as it is using the hard drive you can't format over it.

You could also do it from an CD/DVD (ie Windows installation disc)
