old laptop upgrade options....

ok while my pc is down using this for web etc.

im gonna throw it out the window!

I understand I can put in 2gb ram... it has 512 + 256 at the mo.....

and the drive is a 30gb effort....

if I find 2 gb ram... and update the drive... whats the fastest drive I can put in there..... ?

and is running Windows XP...

is there a better operating system for this measly spec!

2 x 1gb ddr will cost you around £70
cheapest new ide hard drive is around £40 for 160 gb 5400 rpm
You might be able to upgrade the cpu to a pentium 4 variety
As for the os i would probably stick to xp, vista tends to crawl on older tech.
 
cool .. will keep an eye out in the MM market ... might pick up a couple of bargain bits...
 
Yeah not gonna spend loads - its just a backup laptop...spent too much on my desktop machine.

But yeah will keep eyes open.... So 7200 rpm probs.... 2.5 inch ide to fit these things yeah?

I gather little ssds can't go in here without sata option?

yeah 2.5" ide will fit, not sure if you can get ide SSD but i think its doubtful.
