Ive recently got new keyboard for my old Compaq Presario 4000 laptop ,I thought it was never going to boot into windows as been what I thought was dead for so long, but to my surprise it did boot, but asked for password ,which I never set,or ever do set on my pcs..skipping password and loading windows its missing start button and coming up with gdiplu.dll errors a lot which im guessing is virus related ,but without full access to the pc I cant run any virus software or even connect to the net .not knowing a great deal about windows and software could this be saved or am I looking at new windows install ?
cheers in advance q

yes looking grim ( would it handle windows 7 ? 2gh cpu and 1g ram

Yeh it should run it fine, depending on Video Card in use (older than a Intel 945?)

If you can upgrade the RAM to 2GB and put an SSD in there (if possible) it will be a lot faster, otherwise it'll run fine, but you may need to do a few tweaks to make it run better.

video card is ATi mobility Radeon xpress 200 series. not sure if r4000 is compatible with ssd will have to look into that, and as for ram looks like I can pick up some from auction site quite cheap )
