Got a old laptop laying about.nothing special and a very small HDD.Rather than throw it away i was thinking of letting my 8 year old use it.

The OS on it is windows 95  which isnt working i would like to upgrade to XP.Now for starters it does not have a CD Rom drive also XP probably would not fit on the HDD anyway.

If i remove the HDD from the laptop could i get it to boot using a external caddy with a normal [5.25] HDD?

Heh, the memory and cpu prolly would'nt cope with XP anyways mate. The IDE pins for a laptop aren't the same as a 3.5" drive pins as well, same with power connectors. I've got laptop hdd to desktop convertors but haven't seen any convertors to run a desktop hdd on a laptop.
