hi after parking next to one of them pawn shop type places and going in for a laugh i noticed that they had some old mf type lenses, where they were it was hard to take a note of the make etc.
this sparked a thought in my head they all seemed fairly priced and made me wonder if they would work on my d50.
im sure the mounts may be different especially if the brands are not nikon are converters available? will my camera function with out the digital connection?

Assuming you can get the correct mount convertor, you should be fine. However, you will may have to focus manually, and on some lenses, set the aperture manually as well (extra ring on the lens)

Why is it that you lose metering?

Might be a bit of a silly question, but can you not stick it on manual exposure, set the aperture to whatever it is on the lens, and then set the corresponding shutter speed for the scene?

Just had a thought, on manual my S5500 tells me whether it thinks the scene is going to be over or under exposed, does the d50 not do this?

Cheers
