Hello,

I currently run a Q9650 with 4 gig of Ram and a GTX 480.

I'm looking to add some more modern bits to the system.

I intend to keep the GPU for now, so am looking to change the MB/CPU and RAM and also a new hard drive.

I've looked over a few of the posts here asking for help so have an idea what I should be going for so here are my selections so far.

Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail

Asus Maximus VII Ranger Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard

TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01)

I also need to add a hard drive, so suggestions for something fast and around 1TB would be appreciated as well as a critique of those parts I've already selected.

The PC is used for gaming and copes well enough now so I'm looking to get a nice leap up in power from the i5 etc.

I don't need a power supply/case etc. and will look to upgrade the GPU at a later date.

Thanks

On this, what do you currently have in the (old) system? Depending on your budget you could keep that & add an SSD to your new build.

The spec looks ok to me (wait for a second opinion) however, you'll also need a copy of OS because of the motherboard change

Budget is £450 tops.

Would a SSD be just for the OS? and my current ones used for storage?

I have OS btw, not an issue.

Looks good to me, so how would this connect to my motherboard? (sorry if it obvious, it mentions an adaptor is this needed?)

Just the same as a hdd, but connect it to a 6GB port.. You might need the adapter if your case does't have a 2.5" bay. I know the V3 has a bottom mounted 2.5" bay, not sure if your's does.

It fits just like a HDD, the adapter just changes its size.

I think your case can fit a 2.5" drive, if not just stick it any where in the case with a sticky tape, velcro etc.
