hey all,

so my borther is taking my old pc bits off me due to my upgrade but he is looking to upgrade the ram to faster (if possible) and 8gb.

the mobo is a gigabyte ga-z77-d3h and currently only has some 1600mhz corsair vengence and only 4gb. just checked the compatibility chart for the board and it says it can take 2400mhz ram but only lists 3 different brands and only 6 model numbers and none are over 4gb kits.

will most 2400 ram work with this mobo? or does it need to be on the list to work?
this is the only 4gb memory in the list (rest are 2gb)
G.SKILL 4GB F3-19200CL11Q-16GBZH.

cheers,

he went with some 2133 in the end. is it possible to OC this ram and are there any real benifits in oc'ing the ram?

(cpu is oc'd to 4.8ghz)
