Hi All,

I've been trying to work out what upgrade i should do, whether just buying a new motherboard or whether its time to buy a whole new system.

So current specs:

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
Asus P8P67 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard ** B3 REVISION **
G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM)
XFX 750W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply

I already have an ssd and a good graphics card so it will just be the above parts i will need to replace.

So the question is new mobo to replace dieing one or time for a new system.

If a new system is in order do i go for the new skylake or do i get Haswell-E

I use the system for gaming mainly.

Any ideas/advice welcome!

Mate didnt overclock his 2500k, so got a new.....

ASRock H61M-DG3/USB3 Socket 1155 VGA DVI-D 5.1 CH HD Audio Micro ATX Motherboard, for £40.

Or look for used z77/p67 mobo as new are silly prices. Your rig is still very good. ;)

What is happening to your PC to make you think your motherboard is dying?

Your i7 2600K is still a great chip, especially when overclocked. If I was you I'd be looking to source a replacement motherboard and overclock your chip.

What cooler are you using?

a lot of the USB's have decided to stop working.

The cooler i have is Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM2+/AM3)

So im guessing its going to be best to get a new mobo and then do a bit of overclocking!

Judging by your post count you've got access to the MM, put a wanted post for a motherboard in there that is suitable for overclocking your cpu.

I would try and find a replacement board, if you don't overclock you can pick up H series chipset based boards for £40ish.

However Z series chipset boards are not that common new (there are some around if you google).

2nd hand market is mental at the moment too.

If you google about ASRock Z75 Pro3 can be had for reasonable money new, never used one though.

I got a second hand Z77 Maximus V Gene for £75 about 6 months ago.
There are some knocking around, mine was boxed with all acc's and like new...I figured I can't lose money on it unless it breaks.
