this article pits a 3 year old system against a new system. not at all fair, but interesting to see how far computing has come in just three years, and it can also be a guide to people wanting to know what components to upgrade next

I don't think comparing a 8800 GTS 320MB and a 5870 1GB was fair....

Surly the closest comparison of the time would have been the 8800GTX?

The G92 version was not released until 2008 I don't think.

meh i guess a 8800 gtx/ultra/3870 would have given the older system a fairer chance

The whole thing was rather odd if you ask me...

QX6800 vs i7-870... should have been i7-975 or even i7-980x (top vs top)

Same with the gfx really... I agree that it's certainly unfair to compare the 8800gts to the 5870 as they were/are in totally different price brackets...

Again they should have gone for top vs top which is a lot easier to narrow down....

8800Ultra vs 5970 is what they should have done...

Nice idea, but almost thrown together at the last minute without really thinking about it... Would be like having a car comparisson from the 70's to the 00's and then comparing a Ford Cortina of the 70's with a Ferrari 548

The Q6700/QX6700 chips are still pretty good though. Running one of those with a modern graphics card and the average user couldn't tell the difference between that and an i7 for gaming and a lot of other tasks. Would only be when you did something like timing how long a video encode took that you could really see the difference.
