it will be used for my son to play his online games, thats about it realy.
now would you all be so kind as to spek me a sys around one of these bundles, i supose i can use the old case and hard drives, power supply? but will have to buy everything else.
i want best bang for me buck and as cheep as i can get away with, thanks to all... his old sys is a p4

seems to me there both missing video cards. both contain built in video cards but there usualy not up to gaming.

and with the old power supply, what wattage is it?

HDD's would be fine to reuse. and it depends on the case weather the motherboard will fit inside.

more info on the stuff your wanting to reuse would be a great help!

Hard drives and case will be fine to re-use assuming your HDDs are of a decent speed eg 7200 rpm and your case is large enough to fit a decent gfx card. The board will fit as it's a micro ATX. (assuming your case has mounting holes for micro-atx of course) The thing those bundles are missing, as pointed out, is a gfx card. That'll be the deciding factor in most games so I'd spend more money on that component.

The i5 bundle represents greater "future-proofing" due to the fact that it's a quad. More recent games are beginning to make use of quads so it would hold you in good stead in the future. A dual core at a decent clock speed, however, will play games just fine NOW when combined with a good gfx card so for gaming the i5 doesn't represent much improvement in performance except in cpu-limted games such as GTA.

So your choice really is whether to go for the i3 and spend what you save on a good gfx card, or go i5 to get a couple more years out of it but rinse your budget. If, however, you go i3 now, you can always upgrade to an i5 chip using the same kit later on if you needed to, by which time they could be cheap as chips. Hope that's given you some info to consider :)

its an old dragon case[full tower] and the power supply is a true blue 550w, will it connect to the mobo ok?
and yes i will need a new vid card and sound if the on board is no good.

thanks.

ps. will it be best to get the w7 64bit

Win 7 is excellent, and the 64bit will be necessary to make use of all the RAM. The power supply should be fine providing it hasn't deteriorated too badly over time, and should use a standard 24pin mobo connector. You'll need a 6pin pci-e connector for your gfx card so as long as it has that you should be fine. If your HDD and optical drives are IDE you may run into problems seeing as the mobo will only have one IDE port, due to the replacement of IDE with the superior SATA interface. If they're both (or even just one) sata, then you'll be grand. Sata drives use a different power connector so keep that in mind if your PSU only has 4pin molex power (though you can get adaptors quite easily).

get the i3 bundle and a corsair 650w powersupply with a 5770 (or 5850 if you can afford it but 5770 wil be fine around 22" monitors) or buy the bundle seperate a save a few ££ and get a samsung f3 HD

G2G

might also wnato t look at AMD build
