Old one - Mafia 2. Wont work on 64bit windows 8.1 pro.

As title really. Ive scoured the internet for answers but cant get it working i get the message... The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application.

It worked ok on windows pro 8.1 32bit. So has anyone had a similar problem?

I don't think it is the 64bitness, It works fine on 7 64bit.

Tried standard stuff like compatibility mode to windows 7, verify integrity of local data?

I'd also uninstall PhysX, reinstall using latest driver from Nvidia.

Don't have MSi running do you? That can stop the odd game running.

I think it might need a restart after physX installs, including the one it did when you downloaded/ installed the game originally...

It's weird this. It won't install physX presumably cos I have a Radeon 7850, and everything I've googled says this error is a 64bit thing? Witcher, yes I have MSI overclocking software running as my cards MSI.

Make sure nothing is hooking into the game.. I.e. dxtory, nvidia shadowplay, msi afterburner, evga precision x, voip overlays etc etc

Doesn't this one install files into the C drive even if it's on steam on another drive? Delete the game totally and reinstall. If you have an asus soundcard disable the direct pure sound button.

Does anyone have issues with this game still? I've manage to get through the game, but it suffers random crashes here and there saying it stopped working. now it crashes every few minutes which is getting me mad. any help?
tried file integrity but still nothing

Isnt this Game For Windows version ? Windows 64 bit 8.1 does not like GFWL. Took me ages to get it to install. I tried to install GFWL on its own I think I only got it to do it with one of the Dirt games.

Not 100% sure but issue can be something to do with the older vs newer PhysX libraries.

Assume its means the PhysX that came with the game is a lot different to the PhysX in the newest Nvidia drivers.

I have it still installed and no issues on Win 8.1 Update 1 64bit.

I have been playing mafia 2 recently on win 8.1 64bit without a single issue.
