Hello guys, the last time I built a pc was about 15 years ago.
My son wants one for Christmas but I grudge paying for someone to build it.
My budget is about £500- £700
I'm after either an amd or Intel system, I'm up to date on ram, hard discs m.2 ssd's ect, I'm a bit behind on processors and graphics cards+ interfaces for graphics cards (pcie still a thing?)

He wants to play the latest games and wants a case with decent air flow, obviously component compatability has to be right, I don't want hours of diagnosing crashes and or errors.

What would you guys suggest?
Any advice on a build would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Added a CPU cooler for quietness and RGB effect but 5600 comes with one so money to be saved , rx 6600 is a solid 1080p GPU.

32gb of memory but can be reduced to 16 GB to save money.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £651.89 (includes delivery: £11.98)

I really appreciate you for putting this together ! Will it run mw3 at a decent frame rate? And an m.2 drive will be extra?

Hello guys, quick update.
So I did some research and have made amendments to the build. I've ordered as follows:-

Amd R7 7700
Kingston KC3000 2TB M.2 2280 Gen4 NVMe SSD
MSI MAG FORGE 100M Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case.
MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX Motherboard
Kingston FURY Beast RGB 32GB 6000MHz DDR5 CL36 AMD EXPO DIMM Memory
MSI MAG A850GL 850W Full Modular 80+ Gold PCIE 5.0 ATX3.0 -
XFX Radeon RX 6800 16GB SWFT 319 Graphics.

I wanted to get him something that will do him for a while so I spent a bit more.

What are your thoughts?

Many thanks

I have to agree with you on the case it's not great.
With regards to the cpu cooler I did look at a water cooling block but its a case of how far do I want to go. I don't think the thermals on the 7700 are too bad with the standard cooler, although for little money I could upgrade for peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice

Hi and thanks for the reply, the systems built now and runs really well! Just gotta update the bios on the motherboard. Its running win 11 Pro.
Only limiting factor is his monitor as its not even 1440p. He can wait for his birthday before I get that for him.
I'm even thinking about building myself one around the RTX4090 oc
