Ive always updated my computer myself and over the last 8 years i have just packed up the older stuff and stuck it in the loft. But last week i upgraded the case and power supply for my current system which has now left a nice collection of parts i can put together to make a working pc.
But im unsure what to do with it or what parts to use.
I was thinking about making my own server, something that can stay on 24/7 and be used for all my media and maybe also set up a CCTV system on it. Maybe allowing me to put it in the garage out of the way or even use it as a backup if this is even worth the effort.
Im not sure how i do this but if anyone here can suggest what to do with all my old stuff then it would help. Im the sort too lazy to sell it and thats why i still have it.
Here is a list of the parts i now have gathering dust:
1, ATI AGP 9800pro
2, ATI AGP X800
3, ATI PCI X1900
4, ATI PCI HD4970 (just replaced this with a HD6950
5, Asus A7N8X-X mobo with an Athlon 2100 Cpu and 2 x 512 ram
6, Gigabyte GA 95P-DS3 fitted with a Intel Core Duo E6300 and 2 x 1G ram
7, Togan 480 Watt power supply
8, Case
9, 3 DVD RW Ide drives
10, 2 H/drives 160 and 80 Gig
11, keyboard and mouse and some other stuff to get it all working including an old TFT screen
What im unsure about is should i use the better stuff to make a cctv/server or is this OTT and the low spec parts will be fine?
I could really do with some tips please
