I'm thinking about upgrading my pc from

e6500 3.3ghz
4 ram
msi mobo
8800gtx

to a

i7 930 and oc it to 4ghz
6 gig ram
Asus p6x58d-e
and a Gf 460 1 gig

would I notice a difference in speed general and performance to the cost of about a £1k (this is case+psu also)

Or would i be better off just upgrading the gfx card to the 460 and keeping the rest.

yeh it shuld be quicker overall, and u'll notice a difference in games with the 460 for sure, if u don't multitask etc it might be wiser to just get the 460 or a 5870 but beware there are sum games that take advantage of quads

Welcome to the forums :)

Gaming wise a GPU and CPU upgrade, as already suggested would be the easiest/cheapest option.

Would you see a difference between your current rig and proposed upgrade? If you ran the same applications on both machines sat side by side.... Yes. In the real world.... doubtful because you would get used to the apps opening speed and running several apps at one time etc etc on your proposed new set-up in a very short time.

It's a hard choice. have a spin around the various threads here and make a informed choice or ask for advise.

ATB :)

I would say get the gf460 (or 5870, or your card of choice) - you will get a massive improvement for gaming.

If it's still not enough, or you are CPU bound in some way, then depending on the degree of it, upgrade your CPU to a Q9x50, or your whole rig to i7, depending on how much you want to spend. You'll be reusing your 460/5870 then anyway.

That way you can get the biggest improvement first, then add to it without losing anything if you need it.
