This is my old system as bought in april 2008!

ASUS M2R32-MVP 580X CrossFire Socket AM2 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (3.2 GHz) Socket AM2 L2 2MB (2x1MB)
500GB 7200rpm S-ATA2 Hard Drive
4GB DDRII 667Mhz RAM
HD 3850 1GB GDDR3 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card
(Added) Asus Xonar DG 5.1 PCI Sound Card
(Replaced PSU)

I currently earn around £400 a month take away bills and everything else, but ill be getting a payrise this month so that will be £664 after bills and everything, what kind of things would i notice most and what should i buy first for a system, i was thinking of buying a brand new case then slowly buying in the parts maybe? so obviously first of would be CPU motherboard ram but what kind of things should i be looking for do you think for a comp that can play games obviously browsing and maybe on occassion some rendering cheers for advice guys!:)

For gaming you would see better performance with a new GPU. However, I would personally grab a CPU+motherboard+RAM first as this 'should' increase performance in all areas of computing.

But if you value gaming more then a good GPU is a great start:)

im tihnking to be fair a from scratch build will probably be better? with this i guess i could max out the motherboard with ram and maybe crossfire another of the same graphics card so its obv still gonna be outdated but will have a little extra umph wont it?

Items to buy.

1st: New case.

2nd: Mobo,Cpu and ram.

3rd: New Gpu.

4th: Ssd.

5th: Cooler, if you wish to OC.

If you can hold off for a few weeks and buy it altogether, you will save money on postage.
Also shop around for bargains, that is how I built my PC, cheaply.

P.S. what make and model Psu do you have?

erm not sure on the PSU at this moment mate ill have to crack the pc open and have a look just cba have a look just yet any chance i could get any cash at all for any of these parts? wouldn't mind just getting rid to be fair and buying in a full new system atleast if i justify getting any money at all for this system then i will splash major on a new one

Have a look on that well known auction site and see what your parts are going for. You can keep the hdd and maybe the Psu. Sound card not to sure about.
I assume you have an OS.
This will give you some idea as to what you are looking at, about £600, assuming your Psu is decent. You can add a cooler later if you wish to OC.
