Hi all,

I have a second PC that's sat dormant for a long time, not been turned on for probably 6 months.

When I tried to turn it on yesterday nothing happened. I pulled the side of the case and checked everything was properly plugged in, it was.

I noticed that the power supply (a Hiper Type-R 580W) was very hot. The PC has been plugged into the mains, and the PSU switch was turned on.

I also took the PSU out of the PC recently to test my cousin's PC (he thought his PSU had blown). Is it plausible that I've blown this PSU when connecting it to my cousin's PC? It wouldn't power up his PC either.

If it's not the PSU, what are the other possible faulty components? Motherboard, or something else?

I know the Hiper's aren't renowned for their reliability, but until now I'd had no problems with it - it was happily running this PC for 2 years.

take the PSU out of your working rig to check ?

or take out the old PSU and test separately from the pc, short the green and any black wire with a bent paper clip (in the ATX connector) see if it powers up that way?
