Ok so i had a pc build for me a few years ago, it quickly had a number of issues and 2 years ago i 'died' in my eyes and i gave up on it.

I've decided to see if i can't use it as a useful troubleshooting process now, and funnily enough got it to boot... briefly..

Ok so the problem as i remember it was the screen displaying what would appear to be a graphics card failure, colours going wrong, display going crazy etc.

It has no onboard so i could never test that theory, and tbh i didn't have the knowledge back then to test it whatsoever.

After a while i would only get to the gigabyte screen and stop, no amount of inputs let me get anywhere.

So to today: I was bored, took out hdd and turned it on, couldn't get into bios.
Took out a stick of RAM and turned it on, could get into bios, wanted me to boot after i left so i thought brilliant, ill stick in hdd and boot and see what happens.
It brings up the usual safe mode normally etc, it wont boot into safe mode, it goes back to post, on a loop.
I have now twice managed to get it into windows when starting normally, however after 30 seconds - 1 minute the display goes, still see but pixilated and wrong colours etc.
It is currently on and booted, in that state, but i don't hold much trust that it will stay that way. its bsod'ed a few times.

Either way if we can narrow down the issue it could be a cheapish fix for a second pc to run... wow? either way im waiting on an ivy build and don't have a pc, a 9800 is a big jump up from integrated graphics.

BTW so you can all lol, it's a cheapo psu, which did blow once and was replaced, i was young i didn't know better. This time im building myself and grabbing an 80 plus branded xfx

EDIT: was about to say its on and displaying normally... and as i was typing it bluescreened,... ah well i actually got some info from my docs that may help me

So if you ignored the rest:

Fancy helping me do some troubleshooting steps? If we cant fix it meh.

Used an 8600gt from the garage, seems to fix the display issue, still got 1 stick in it, going to try memtest now its booting semi normally.

Thing is.. pretty sure it was in warrenty when it died.. but i'd had so many issues i just gave up

BTW, turns out i was using a WD green as boot... *cringe*

EDIT: no usb to boot from right now, so it may be a project that ends up running over until monday, ill borrow one from work.

Going to prime95 to see if i cant recreate a bsod for something to do now

EDIT: decided to put in the second stick of ram, it turned on but didnt display anything, took it out and the other one works fine solo... and in a different slot. :|
