I have a 1998 Primera GT with 113k on the clock. The manifold is blowing, the clutch needs replacing, it's due a service and the rear nearside brake is binding slightly. I'm sure someone mechanically minded could sort out these problems very easily at very little cost.

Basically, I'm not sure what to do with the car. I'm picking up my new car next weekend so I'm looking to get rid of this.

It's got an MOT up until Jan 2010 and tax until Feb 2010.

Is it worth me cashing in the tax? I'm guessing the best place to advertise the car is ebay, but it might be worth just cashing in the tax and scrapping it?

Except for the points noted above, the car is solid so it would be a bit of a shame to scrap it, but obviously if I'll get more for scrapping it I might as well do that.

If anyone's got any advice I'd appreciate it.

If they car had no problems it would only be worth about £800-£1000. I'd probably look to breaking it then scrapping it tbh. But just on the off chance - try phoning around some small independent garages to see how much they'll charge to fit a clutch (can get a clutch kit from ebay for ~£40), free the rear caliper (probably will only take a few minutes) and see what they can do with the manifold. If they only were to charge something like £300-400 for this and then you could sell it for £800-£1000, you're laughing!

Alternatively, advertise it on the owners forum. Most guys on there would be able to sort those problems out in a couple of days i should think.

Slap it in your local ad paper and on ebay.

If you cant be bothered :P Then weigh it in and cash in the tax.

I wouldn't bother scrapping it, gone are the days you can get £150 for 'weighing it in', now you might even have to pay them to take it...

With a decent length MOT (and preferably at least some tax) it'll fetch at least £300 on ebay, possibly more like £500. Not staggering amounts but far better than scrapping it imo.

If the car is cosmetically in good condition. And the only issues are the ones you have stated, then selling it via the members club may be your best option.

As someone above already stated, those guys will be able to sort the problems in no time and for far less £££ than you.
