Guys i have a enermax EG495AX psu spare and am considering building a pfsense box using a celeron G1840 cpu.

The psu only has a 4 pin cpu power connector and probably does not support the very low power states that are used on haswell and newer cpus.

However this celeron is not an i3/i5/i7 cpu so not sure if it needs to support the super low power states, any idea if the PSU would work.

I will buy a new psu if required but I only want to spend whats needed.

That's one of the Noisetaker units I believe? They were very good psu's in their day but they must be 10-11 years old by now which would concern me a bit. I think it's safe to say that they will not support the low power states introduced with Haswell which may cause problems if it's left on all the time and allowed to go into sleep mode. If all you do is switch it on, use it and then shut down again it should be ok.
