Hi everyone.

I've got a problematic old iMac. It's got no onboard WiFi and I can't find any USB WiFi adapters that support it. I've also failed to find a dedicated ethernet to wireless bridge in the local shops.

So, I was wondering whether I can use an old router as an ethernet to wireless bridge and how is it is to set up.

i.e.

[Broadband] -Ethernet- [Router] -802.11g- [Router] -Ethernet- [iMac]

At home I've got a Netgear DG834G router laying around that's approximately 2 years old. Would that be suitable? What kind of options in the admin panel should I look out for? I assume that I'd need to turn things like DHCP off?

It'll be connecting to a brand new BT Home Hub if that's of any consequence.

You'd need it to work as a wireless client, which AFAIK the DG834G won't. DHCP would need to be disabled as well, but that should be all you need to turn off.

Darn.

So I guess my only options are a wireless gaming adapter (can't find many online) or a pair of powerline adapters?
