Have been donated a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ - ADA3000AEP4AX
long with an old Gigabyte MB (Ga K8Vm800m)

Whilst I realize the chances of this thing running HD video are very slim, is there a processor with matching socket that I might be able to just slot in and do the job without breaking the bank?

Im building this out of parts I have around for my dad to use as a Media Centre :)

Im wondering a similar thing, i have my dads old X2 3800+ Socket 939, 2Gb RAM and an Asus PCI-E mobo.

If i added something like an 8400GS or GT610 would this handle HDTV duties including BluRay playback?

An AGP card is needed for a GA-K8VM800M motherboard.

It came with this

Heres the slot it outputted from

I have bought an MSi GeForce GT 210 1GB Graphics Card Low Profile PCI-Express 2.0x16 589MHz with HDMI output and was going to use a Riser card adaptor to make it fit in.

But I need the AGP card in stil even with that? Sorry im a total noob with this older stuff

Can you cancel the order for the GT210?

Its due to be delivered tomorrow, but it only cost £22 tbh. By the time its posted back I'mm better off keeping it. New mobo and CPU time I guess, what should I get?

EDIT: Im thinking AMD as they seem to be cheap to pick up, seen a refurb mobo for £24 (Biostar N68S3B Micro ATX Motherboard AMD Socket AM3) just need a cpu cheapish to run it smoothly?

Got a case/budget in mind? Just for HD video?

erm sorta, Using the chasis from a Hiper (will be making the rest from wood)

Have some DDR3 Kingston RAM, HDD, Slimline DVD drive, usb Wireless N adaptor.

Need compact psu, cpu and mobo. budget £80 if possible to do for that?

just want it to be able to playback video in full HD and be able to play iplayer etc initially :)

That would be a waste of money tbh, those cards are over priced new and rare second hand. Not blowing my own trumpet but I'd go with my suggestion of a Brazos motherboard - look how it stacks up against the Athlon 3300+, a faster CPU than the OP has

You could also try for a Core 2 Duo CPU/board/GPU combo second hand, and that would be a faster overall system but I think that would be pushing it for £80, let alone £50, not forgetting that not being new or having warranty etc
