Old School Quad Gear

I was at a customers house yesterday.

He showed me some old school stuff, a 33 and a 303.

He said they were worth in the region of £10k and when he had them recently refurb'd quad offered him £8k?

Didn't sound right to me?!?

Tuner, pre and power amp? Or speakers as well?

Just a 33 and 303.

Aye, you can get them on Ebay for about £150 a piece.

I'd have to get the 33 modded I think, so I could stick a CD player through it. I've not done much research into this, so if anybody can offer any advice?

Cheers. :)

I believe that's a tuner and pre amp.

I don't know a great deal about stereo kit, espescially old stuff

The FM3 is the tuner which is usually partnered with that gear.

303 is the power amp
33 is the Pre amp.

I thought they were only a grand or more when new !!!!
So 8~10K is a laugh !

Google brings up lots of sites doing mods......

BUT why ?? Didn't think they were that good sounding when they came out, (do they still come with the pipe and slippers :D )
And if you do all the mods on those sites, doesn't look like there is much left, so it's not really a Quad amp anymore !!!!
Would have thought a modern integrated would spank them !!!
For an old decent pre-power look at a Naim 32 or 42/140 or a Linn LK1/LK280

Quad do the mod themselves apparently.
I've always fancied their gear and fancy something a little bit quirky as a seperate system from what I have already.
Put my father-in-laws 1970's Sansui AU-717 through some KEF Q35's the other day and it really really really kicked my (old, but modern) Sony QS STR-DB930 amp's botty. Thats why I fancy a bit of the other, for something that bit different. :)
