Hi all,

After some help with OC on my old setup. Never done OC before so be gentle!

Setup:
Asus P5QL-E mobo lga775
WinFast PX7800GT gfx
Zalman PSU
Seagate barracuda 7200.9 200gb hdd SATA
Corsair matched pair XMS2-6400c5 4gb DDR2 xtreme performance 5-5-5-18 800mhz
Arctic cooling freezer pro 7 CPU cooler
Intel e5200 dual core 2.5GHz

I know systems have moved on from this by mile, but I want to give it a boost of performance over the stock build.

What settings should I be changing to achieve best performance from the system?

Also, what software are best to keep eye on temps and loads to make sure it's not going to damage the system?

Thanks

Andy

Ok so answered one question by looking at the beginner sticky, prime95 is stability checking software.

So only help needed is for what setting for optimum performance!!!

Monitoring and benchmarking:

  • Coretemp or Realtemp = Temps
  • HW Monitor = Voltages
  • CPUz = system info
  • Prime & super PI = benching

Overclock:

  • Disable all powersaving features, speedstep etc.
  • Set cpu fan to full
  • Increase NB voltage by 0.25v
  • Incrementally raise V core voltage to about 1.45v keeping an eye on temps to find max safe voltage.
  • Crank back max voltage a little and start increasing clockspeed until system becomes unstable.

Rough and ready but doing the above will get you there, then you can start fine tweaking.
