Old skool.......I3 530 cpu upgrade.....

Since the i5 700 and i7 800 series CPUs have four cores (compared to the 2 cores on your i3 530) there is certainly perfromance advantages upgrading to a quad core. In fact, quite a few users here are still running gaming systems with one of these LGA1156 quad core CPUs (and a more modern graphics card).

Therefore, if you can find a decent deal on something like an i5 750, i5 760, i7 860, i7 870 then you should probably snap it up. An i5 750 recently sold on the MM for £45 - which is a pretty fair price IMHO.

Not struggling with any thing as such:) just wanted a upgrade or see if i can get any more out of this current setup

I can start a new thread but for those that get notified.whats a reasonable priced h/s/f for this kind of thing?

Thanks again

k2 mount doom is good for the price but idk how tall your ram is

im not upto date on the single rad coolers

What about an 860 870 875 880 as they are the best for that socket

Nice chips, bit in my experience its very hard to find one being sold for a reasonable price. In contrast the i5 700 series are available in higher numbers and at much more realistic prices (for a 2009 mainstream CPU).

still having trouble finding anything at a worth while price lol

my mums after a reasonable system for her and my nephew to use for kiddies games etc

was gonna set up my old socket 775 system but i might just chuck that and retire this one for her to use if my cpu quest is not successful.
