Old skool: What was your first 3D card and game?

Orchid Righteous 3D - 3Dfx - 4MB paired with a Matrox Mystique 220 - 4MB.

The first game I played with native glide support was TOCA/TOCA 2, I was blown away.

Kids of today have no idea, I doubt most of them know what hardware accelerated graphics are. Remember the pain of running the latest 3D game using directx? (before hardware acceleration).

To this day, experiencing hardware acceleration for the first time is the biggest WOW moment I have experienced while gaming.

I had the same setup as this chap tombraider with 3dfx patch was the first game i tried.

You guys are making me feel nice a young my first dedicated gpu was a 5200fx pci no pci-e and i was trying to play bf2 with it it didn't go well

i think it was called a 440mx (geforce) and the game was Delta Force 2, 640x480 pixels of gaming heaven

That and the nvidia fx range were some of the worst cards you could have ever put money on! I know because I got suckered into buying them when I was younger. After some research I realised they were quite bad.
Coopson had an fx too, poor guy :(

1997 - Card was a rubbish ATi 3D Xpression Rage thingy. Game was Forsaken. Half the effects didn't work, but going from blocky pixels to super smooth "proper" 3D was absolutely mind-blowing. A Voodoo2 was pre-ordered.....then another for SLI. Happy days :)

Good old Riva TNT 2; probably had things like Quake 2 and UO (of all things) running on it at the time.

I remember them having the PowerVR chip on display in game and the other big named chip at the time (forget the name), running side by side - think the VR one was running some formula one game, looked good at the time! :)

yeah it was bad the intro movies to age of emipres 3 lagged the game was playable so i got a 8800 gtx after that and been wasting money on the highest cards since i got a 4870x2 for like £450 then sold it like 1 year later for £140 :(

I'm a bit upset tho cause when i didn't have a good gaming pc the pc had some great good looking games now that i'm here we're getting mostly console games.

S3 ViRGE; POD with MMX Acceleration

One of the few racing games I actually enjoyed. A neighbour had the same card, but they got a copy of MechWarrior 2 with it.
