Time has long past when I should upgrade my old tower computer. I always chose supermicro boards in my early days, but have lost touch now.
I want a good board, but I am not a gamer. Just general use, the odd video etc.

As I can't find lo the UK an upgrade supermicro board , i have been looking at the msi z97 gamer5 looks good to me. Mainly for what the board has on it, seems to be reasonably future proof.

What's the advice from you guys that know more than.
Thanks
Bob

Hi,

If you are looking to upgrade your cpu+board to something more modern and already have DDR3 RAM, then Z97 with an i5 (4690K for example) would be good, if you have nothing at all and are looking at a more complete upgrade including RAM etc, then why not look at a Z170+6600K+DDR4 setup.

Many thanks, I will start from scratch, so assume i have nothing. Don't know why, but I like the look of the MSI gamer 5 board, but note i am not a gamer.
What's your thoughts on this, is it future proof for a couple of years, would use the Intel 5 processor.
