So with the need of running a vpn soon if you want any privacy, I was wondering if I can use an old pc as a router to deal with all my devices.
Looking at various consumer routers that have vpn support, most cheaper ones (£100 or so), seem to cap out at around 50-60mbps if that, due to lack of resources.
I have an old system consisting of:
Athlon xp 1800
768MB ram
+ all the stuff not really performance related, case, psu etc
I would need to buy a Gigabit network card and wifi dongle.
Possible to use that as a router to serve all my devices? Or too old and slow with for decent openvpn speeds?
I also have a atlhon xp 3200 and an athlon 64 x2 3800+ + board (although that's a nosier setup).
Thanks.
