Old system ram

actually, from what you are saying, I could throw in my original 3x2gb ram into the three unused slots and run them as well .. but is that more or less efficient than running dedicated triple channel ram (total 12gb) compared to (total 18gb) of whatever channel it will make it with all slots full??? Will that adversely affect the overclock?
It won't affect your CPU overclocking, but it can lead to a small (and usually negligible) reduction in memory performance as the BIOS will set the timings on each channel to those of the slowest module.

For reference, as I mentioned before my X58 system has all 6 slots full with 8GB modules (which aren't even officially supported by the motherboard) and the CPU is overclocked from 2.8GHz to 4.5GHz. No overclock on the memory, though, but having three channels means there's plenty of bandwidth already and memory OCing is rarely worth the hassle.

right .. I've followed all the changes (apart from enabling turbo) .. ram is at 1600mhz and overclock is at 4ghz .. max temp under 100% stress using burnin, OCCT, prime95 is 68 degrees C .... I did the 100% stress both on the CPU and RAM ... all tests passed .. looks like i got it sorted. Now tomorrow I should have the new SSD arriving and will also change the OS from win7 pro x64 to win 10pro x64 .. This shouldn't affect the overclock at all should it ??
