Hi all, I have the following systems I am thinking of upgrading one bit at a time before summer where it will probably get a new motherboard/CPU/memory.
The old Q9550 system resides in my sons room, the E8500 as an HTPC, both single 1080p monitor.
Currently I am thinking of,
YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI Radeon R9 270X Gaming Edition OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £155.99
1 x Corsair RM Series RM 750 '80+ Gold' 750W Power Supply (CP-9020055-UK) £109.99
1 x Kingston 120GB SSDNow V300 Drive SATA 6Gb/s 3 2.5" (7mm height) Solid State Hard Drive - (SV300S37A/120G) £73.99
1 x Corsair Graphite Series 230T Compact Mid Tower Case Windowed - Orange (CC-9011038-WW) £66.95
Total : £416.52 (includes shipping : £8.00).
And possibly a Corsair Hydro Series H100 Refurbished cooler.
I am wondering if the 2GB or 4GB 270X card is the better deal, how do they do in crossfire? How quiet are they?
(I could possibly buy two as I have the other old system running an old HD5750, so in future Crossfire could be a possibility)
Would a 120GB SSD be enough for the main OS drive?
Any opinions on the case?
If not doing future Crossfire I could drop to a 550w PSU.
The power supply, well to be honest, I need another elsewhere so was thinking of transferring the Bequiet Cooler and PSU over.
I was going to purchase a 430W Corsair CXM for project work at £38, but could use my current 450w Corsair if I get a new 550w or 750w RM series PSU.
Thinking of an AMD or i5 replacement of the core components in summer. Possibly MicroATX which would negate any need for an ATX case or H100 as I could use the spare TJ08B case.
The old system.
Gigabyte EP4-DSP3 P45 motherboard.
Intel Q9550 CPU.
BeQuiet Dark Rock Advanced or Noctua NH-U14s CPU cooler.
Corsair XMS2-8500 8GB (4x2) 1066MHz DDR2
Sapphire HD4870 1gb Toxic graphics card.
Samsung F3 500 and 1tb hard drives.
BeQuiet PurePower modular 630w psu.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit OS.
Gigabyte GZ-X1 case.
And the following downstairs PC which could probably use an SSD, the BeQuiet cooler and PSU from above. Possibly a new GPU too.
Asus Maximus II Gene LGA775 Micro-ATX motherboard.
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8500.
Stock Intel CPU cooler.
Corsair Dominator GT 1066c5 2x2gb memory.
PowerColor SCS3 HD 5750 1GB PCI-E passive cooled graphics card.
Samsung F3 500 and 1tb hard drives.
Corsair HX-450w modular PSU.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit OS.
Silverstone GD02B HTPC case. (Possibly swapping over with a TJ08B-E case I have spare)
To be honest both these systems run well, but feel pretty slow compared to my current rig. I am sure the main issue is the lack of SSD on the old LGA775 systems.
All the games that the family play have progressed beyond the old HD4870 and HD5750, which serve well for an HTPC but could probably be replaced with the newer on board GPU's of AMD and Intel.
