Old technology holds a Premium

DDR2 RAM seems quite expensive compared with DDR3, but generally second hand stuff tends to go fairly cheap.

Either thats a mistake or they don't want to sell it :p

It's marketing, if old technology has stopped been manufactured that means there is now a limited stock in the world. Prices rise because there is less about and can be sold at a premium causing room for new models to arrive.

Once the old technologies are obsolete and people upgrade to the middle/high end technology prices dive down of the low end stuff and eventually can't be got a hold of any more.

This is not just CPU's it's everything in markets!

Hi

I am guessing this is a mistake.....

or does old technology hold a premium?

I have been looking around at 2nd hand stuff for crunching at WCG and I have very surprised at some of the prices kit goes for.

Old tech can hold a premium if there's only a limited supply. The simple reason being is if you own an expensive server or raid array and your CPU fails it's cheaper to replace the CPU rather then buy a whole new system.
