Moved into new rented house and there's an active phone line with active O2 broadband too. Will need to get this changed, I assume they are still paying for it but what will the process be? I have no contact with the previous tenant, nor know who.

I got a feeling O2 are going to be funny about giving me the MAC...

Isn't this an issue the letting agent should be handling?

If there’s still an active phone line and broadband connection in place then you’ve got a potential bad debt linked to the property to deal with.

Have to agree with above post.
get in touch with 02 asap.

I rang O2 and they said they can't do anything without contact from the previous tenant. Going to ring landlord today and hopefully he can get hold of them.

Surely it means they are still paying for it if its still active?

You can contact the sales team for the provider you would like to go with,
Inform them of the tag on the line and that a tag e-form need to be filled in and sent to openreach this will take a bit of time but will clear any tag off the line.

Or if you are moving to Sky for both phone and broadband you should go on to the SVBN service and so not need a MAC code.

What's tag on the line? How much downtime would I expect with these options?

Tenants are usually advised to leave the phone line active so there is no connection fee. I'm not sure if it's the same for broadband. As long as they have informed their provider about their move the migration process has probably started.
