Old VGA monitor

Hi All,

I've recently purchased a new build a took my parts to my friend to assamble them. Everything went fine and i took my PC home. I hooked it using my VGA to DVI D adapter and nothing is showing up now. I will eventually change my monitor but i thought to hold out for now. What could be the problem?

DVI is a digital signal that in theory carries the analogue VGA signal within it (along separate wires), but iirc it's not functionally necessary for it to do so.

It's possible that your DVI output simply doesn't include this connection. Do you have more than one DVI output on your pc? Might be worth trying others, see whether any of them have the VGA signal in there.

Has your card got DVI-I and DVI-D if so change the port your adapter is plugged into.

Thinking about it, that might be the difference between DVI that does have the VGA signal in it, and DVI that doesn't
