Hi all,
This is where I embarrass myself asking an obvious question but it's winding me up not knowing what other people think so here goes:
Currently I have a second build that started a s a kind of experiment to see how cheaply I could build a second hand socket 775 and compare price to performance etc. Anyway, you know how it goes, I swapped in a decent case when I had a spare, a quality psu became available and went in, 7850 were on sale here for crazy prices I couldn't resist etc.
So now it gets used as a half decent gaming machine. The mobo uses 1066 ddr3 and overclocks the e5300 to a very comfortable 3.6. This with the 7850 gives a unigine3 1080p 4xaa normal tesselation score of 1400.
This is where the silly question comes in, would an i3-2100 at 3.1 actually be any quicker than what this rig has? Obviously 3.6 is a faster processor speed but it's a very old cheap processor.
Anyway, I'm rambling lol. I guess my final query is, in that scenario, at what processor level would new tech be an improvement? G530? i3-2100? 2500k?
Probably inane questions but I find these discussions interesting and can't answer it myself!
