Hi all,

A mate of mine told me i have an old Xbox 360 and should ditch it and buy a new age one. Something to do with HDMI and HD compatibility.

What is he on about?!

The new model Xbox 360 (starting from around December 2007) came with a HDMI port and a new cooling system (look for 175w on the box) but other than that there is no difference.

Other than the newer model comes with a quieter drive aswell.

Unless you're rich I wouldn't bother :p All you get is a HDMI port, and possibly a better drive :p Still the same red ring risk :p

Totally agree with what you are saying mate just when you said they have the same red ring risk is all I was disagreeing with.

No point buying another one though unless yours is really on its way out and out of warranty.

If the warranty has run out then it would be a good time to sell it before getting the red rings. I'm sure it's easier to sell working 360. :p That money then could go towards a Felcon or Jasper.

Completely wrong I'm afraid. It's as much a lucky dip with drive noise as it's ever been.

The "new" cooling system is also just as flawed as the old one, with the same crappy x-clamp torsion attachment method.

If you listen to your mate now your going to be feeling sad when in the next 6-12 months they bring out the slim version. Just wait till then at least.

What difference does the HDMI port make?

You can connect to a TV with a HDMI connection for HD video and audio over a single cable, rather than using the messy standard component connection. If you're not using a 1080p TV or an AV Surround kit, then the point is kinda moot for you. If you're using VGA or HDMI the 360 can also upscale standard DVDs although its not amazing at doing so, but thats about it hehe.
