Old Xbox rrod question

Hi guys,

This will no doubt be a daft question but I need to know.

I have the older Xbox 360 elite hdmi model, I heard a while ago that when you get a rrod you send it back and it gets fixed even if its out of warranty. Is this true? I am thinking of swapping the noisy fan with something more quiet.

Also has anybody swapped the fan before?

If it is more than 3 years old, you can't get it repaire for free. You can pay MS to fix it for about £90. Might as well get a nice quiet slim for the extra £60

My xbox is fine it just has noisey fans which I want to replace, but if I would have to pay MS then I may as well replace the stock fans.

I think that was the jist of it, 3 years after purchase. No warranty to void then by changing the fan etc?
