Older Intel CPU's

Hi all

Just wanting to know if any of the older Intel Processors are worth the money..

I only use my PC for gaming at 1080p and the missus may do abit of research online, i was trying to find a decent DDR4 compatible CPU but wasn't sure if theres any older models worth it.

Any i5 or i7 from sandybridge onwards IMO. Especially K variants. There are still dozens of 2500k users on the forums, even some with very high end cards like 1080's running great guns at 1080p.

I was considering an older bundle like 2500k but not sure what boards are ideal as i have an ITX case..

All depends on your budget, what games you play and plenty of other variables. Second hand CPU';s often seem way out there on price considering what you're getting. Always look at new prices first and work back from there if you want to buy something "used". Don't just pay what people are asking without looking at what you can get brand new.
Second hand I'd go for at least a 6700K (DDR4) for gaming at 1080P to ensure the best performance all round. As I think they've been selling NEW for £220 recently, IMO, the early CPU's especially are worth a lot, lot less than that.
You're going to get a massive amount of varying opinion but please do your research on what you can get for your money new before splashing out like 75% as much on something 2...3 years old.

I have seen a lot of the older CPU's for sale on MM and have been tempted but like you said i need to look at prices first, Also a lot are DDR3 so will need to take that into consideration to

DDR4 only became mainstream with Skylake so anything earlier uses DDR3. A big problem you are going to have (bigger the further back you go as well) is to find a itx motherboard as you are going to have to find one second hand from Haswell/Devils Canyon and earlier. If you want to use DDR4 then Skylake and Kabylake Z170/Z270 boards are still widely available though I suspect you are looking at earlier cpu's then those.

Yeah that's one issue i was expecting to come across, I have seen a couple of i5-7400 bundles but not sure what they perform like, I am on a budget, looking at £200ish for CPU & BOARD ideally, i have DDR4 already so that's one main component not having to spend on

To be honest, I reckon you should be able to pick up a 6700K and a basic Z170 mobo for that kind of money. Of course it wont be easy but say £150 for the CPU(less for an earlier chip) and £50 for the mobo seems about right to me.
I have a 6700K and Mobo, if I was selling (and I'm not),that's the kind of money I'd expect for my 1 year old weekend use only CPU and mobo.
