Older laptop advice

My sons current laptop is knackered and i have the opportunity to buy a more mature laptop to get him by for 9 months or so. My sons 14 and a gamer so I need to know if either of these 2 will do for him. He's into rainbow 6, COD, Minecraft etc. They both cost around £400 and are
1. MSI Stealth GS63 i7-7700HQ 2.8GHz 8GB Ram GTX1050 128GB + 1TBHDD
2. ASUS ROG Strix GL502VT GEFORCE
GTX970 i7.
Does anyone have the knowledge if either would be suitable.

I have watched reviews for both on YouTube but the vids are 3 to 4 years old. Just worried the gpu is goona be too outdated for modern AAA games.
