Hi guys, just acquired a mid 2012 MacBook Book Pro. It’s running Catalina and cannot go any further so I cannot get iMovie etc.

Anyone know of a similar piece of software that is free and doesn’t give watermarks etc that would run on it?

A much more capable free alternative would be free version of DaVinci Resolve (as long as you don't use the Pro features it won't leave a watermark), but it's a proper video editing software and has a steeper learning curve.

If you have downloaded iMovie before on your Apple ID, you can find the latest compatible version in App Store > Account Settings and the list of your purchased mac apps, from there you can download the latest iMovie that's compatible with your macOS.
