any idea what type of PSU has a 6 pin mobo connectore instead of the usual 4?

I have only seen them a few times on older server / workstation machines..

this paticular one is for a hp xw8000 workstation (a old zeon machine)..

I can get them of the bay, however id rather get a new one from OC that will do the job...

thanks for looking!

I have an older Thermaltake 450w which has a 6 pin (inline) connector for the mobo. I keep it as a spare.

ATX 1.0 12V PSUs included:

20-pin connector (2x10)
P4 connector

ATX 1.3 12V PSUs include:

20-pin connector (2x10)
6-pin AUX
SATA connector available
P4 connector

ATX EPS 12V PSUs (server PSU) include:

24-pin connector (2x12)
P4 connector
8-pin (2x4) server connector

ATX 2.0 12V PSUs include:

24-pin connector (2x12) - needed for PCI-Express
P4 connector
SATA connector standard
6-pin (2x3) PCI-E connector

ATX 2.2 12V PSUs include:

24-pin connector (2x12) - needed for PCI-Express
P4 connector
SATA connector standard
6-pin (2x3) PCI-E connector
Updated power efficiency and requirements

Therefore you need a PSU conforming to ATX 1.3 or get an old PSU and cut off the connector and solder to a sata cable connection on a modern PSU.
Below are the pin outs and you can see the same voltages occurring.

Aux 6 pin pinouts

Pin Name Color Description
1 COM Black Ground
2 COM Black Ground
3 COM Black Ground
4 3.3V Orange +3.3 VDC
5 3.3V Orange +3.3 VDC
6 5V Red +5 VDC

The sata cable pinouts are

Pin Signal PSU Color Wire
1 +3.3VDC orange
2 +3.3VDC orange
3 +3.3VDC orange
4 GND black
5 GND black
6 GND black
7 +5VDC red
8 +5VDC red
9 +5VDC red
10 GND black
11 Optional black
12 GND black
13 +12VDC yellow
14 +12VDC yellow
15 +12VDC yellow

I had an old foxconn Mobo with a 6 pin ATX power connector but there was a blocker over 2 pins as they were unecessary .. check your MoBo manual to see if all 6 need to be used
