am I correct in remembering that we could rate threads during a period of time?
I would certainly rate some 5/7 and then there's the others that would get nil points.

Yeah, threads could be given stars, from 1 to 5.

Some idiot spent a day rating every thread as 1 so the algorithm was changed and a thread had to have a minimum number of ratings before the average showed, that put a stop to him.

It's something I quite liked and was sad when we lost it. Some people still post in threads and make comments like "five stars", that's a throwback to the ratings.

What was the point of the rating? Sounds like it would have been an even worse feature than the current emoji reactions to posts

I remember the old forum, fairly sure I joined initially around 9/11 2001 due to the discussion on that event, although given I often forget what I did yesterday, I may be way off the mark!

Largely disappeared from OC/UK for a few years primarily as I’d become a moderator for a flight simulator forum (Simviation) which consumed all my free time.

Turned back up in 2004 a bit like a stray dog and have been here ever since. :D

Its like going back in time, there is a dedicated forum for CD writing!

I could gaurentee if i went in to the Cars and bikes forums back then id still be getting ripped about "dont forget to scan it with your code reader" jabs

I have found one date where it shows my birthday at the bottom

i was 32 at this date :D

And one for Linux even away back then. Clearly the year that Linux took over the desktop.

Looking at this archived OCUK is teeing me off though. I’m sure I was a member (though not active) back then as the forum is familiar but I just can’t remember!

There must be a huge number of those who have never posted or who haven’t signed on in many years. Feek are you able to access any stats like those? Do you ever purge old/abandoned accounts?

4,612 members visited the forums in 2025 and made more than 10 posts.
3,089 members visited the forums in 2025 and made more than 100 posts.

So yes, we still have a lot of active members.
