hi ya guys ..

sorry to ask the most asked question .. but I'm buying a new rig and want you guys to tell me if all is ok before I buy pls ...

the items :

Intel Core 2 Quadro Pro Q6600 £367
Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 £152
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz SLIDual Channel DDR2 £160
Enermax Liberty 500W ELT500AWT £70
2 x Barracuda 500GB ST3500641AS SATA-II 16MB £74

I don't really want to spend any more money than this, But don't want to skimp on it either ! ;)

Going to pair this lot up with my ageing BFG 7600GT ( for now ) I will buy a pair of 8800's when I have the money.

I will use this rig for crunching, storage, and gaming, and some heavy CAD. I love over clocking and will def. going to get every last Mhz out of it, BUT will def, be staying on air for cooling.

Any advice pls ….

ok, firstly .. sorry about the sig, ( don't know what's wrong with it .. so I'll just remove it :) )

thanks for the rig spec .... But i thought the 680i chip sets were better than the 650i .. but i do understand the mobo I chose will be diff. to over clock a quad core.

I did org. want a 6600 but with resent tales of bad clockers etc, I thought q6600 could be the way to go now the prices have dropped.

I know I'll need a better than stock HSF but was gonna wait til some great cooler came out

I was stuck on PSU and thanks for that.

I thought the ram i chose was good ....?? are they really not worth the money ..? :)

thanks for the help guys .... looks like i need it !

ok thanks all for your comments ...
seems no one wants me to go for a quad core, I know I won't see the benifits on most apps ATM, BUT whould be kick ass on crunching ! ! :D

BL2KIT12864AA804 ; the ram looks good, but is a lower speed too the one's I was gonna get ... and there not SLi ready ..... make a differance ..?? will i be able to over clock these baby's good ..?

is the HS looks great .. and sure I'll get it.

rig now then :
Noctua NH-U12F Heatsink Noctua £36.41
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)£99.86
Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz (BL2KIT12864AA804) £117.49
Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) MB-221-AS £82.24
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz (1066FSB) CP-128-IN -£152.74
Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB HD-049-SE - £74.99
Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB HD-049-SE - £74.99

Total : £639

* I haven't forgot about hte graphics cards you guys mentioned ... will look into it ! thanks *

so I should be able to to see 3Ghz + on this system ...? heard the newer E6600 don't O/c so well. ? I also see the Mobo has voltage drop issues too ( but then again there's a catalogue of probs with the board i chose ! )

could I see 3Ghz + on the Q6600 ..? with this system ..??
