ok I have never dabbled in pentium but recently got gifted a pc that had a pentium 3 1ghz in it. the motherboard seams a standard dell etc and only ships with this cpu.
Chip Details:
Pentium III SL52R
1000/256/133/1.75
What I was wondering is firstly what is the maximum speed of this class of chip produced, secondly would the motherboard be able to take an upgrade of the same type / fsb etc? also where on earth would yuo get an old chip from these days? I tried a couple of places, but I am not especially keen to go the auction site route.

PIII Coppermine 1.13Ghz cpus were recalled, and the 1.4Ghz ones are Tualatins and need a native FCPGA2 socket or adapter for FCPGA1 or Tualatin supporting Slotket for Slot 1. Not worth it upgrading as the speed difference would be virtually unnoticed.
