Look's like they redesigned the prototype. 60 Hz now instead of 120 Hz but at least they put DP 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 on it. Can't wait to get this baby in. Hopefully the input lag is low!

Was it going to be LG then they changed to a different manufacturer? Or is it still LG and they left you out of the loop?

As far as I know LG only makes 55, 65 and 77" OLED panels. I'm like 90% certain this is a Samsung OLED panel and 10% that it's a Sony OLED panel.

Because OP forgot to link the article see: http://www.anandtech.com/show/11272/dells-ultrasharp-30inch-4k-oled-now-on-sale-up3017q-for-3500

I'm so happy an OLED monitor is finally hitting the market, even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles I'm looking for. Hopefully it gives higher ups at other monitor manufacturers *cough* LG *cough* a kick in the backside.

I didn't leave any link out, I sent this news to Anandtech after I ordered it. Therefor I made this thread before Anandtech article. ;)

So essentially if one was to purchase this monitor were paying a premium for something that's been around on plasmas year ago , on my pioneer its called orbit mode i.e. pixel shift.

Pixel shift in practice isn't noticeable, especially at these resolutions. My LG OLED did it and was a non-issue.

This is aimed squarely at the professional market place, not gaming so no-one should be surprised that it isn't 120/144Hz, Gsync, Freesync, Ultra wide etc.

There isn't anyone else making 4K OLED panels, so this has to be LG, others are all AMOLED or much smaller.

It isn't LG. Samsung makes all the OLED panels for the 13-14" laptops that use those screens. Ron over at oled-info.com also expects it to be Samsung. Although I leave a 10% chance to Sony, since their master monitors have a 30" 4K OLED panel.

On another note; Praise Jebus that was fast, my Dell OLED has already shipped! Arrives on Monday.

I understand this fella , ive run it on my pioneer krp since the day ive owned it and you wouldn't notice if it was on or of. Im just trying to understand the price i.e. what am I getting at 30" at 3500 compared to a 55 hdr tv on market at the half the price HACO earlier mentioned pixel shift but that dosent warranty this premium price , I don't understand why were paying so much more for less estate at same htz 60.

Really low volume items always skyrocket the price. LG sells hundreds of thousands of OLED TV's. Plus the monitor has PC professional graphics items and 3 year pixel perfect warranty, stuff TV's don't have.

Reading over the manual some items stuck out to me:

300 cd/m² (≤1% Load) maximum brightness and 120 cd/m² (100% Load). Automatic brightness control is not unexpected from an emmisive display, but I guess I will have to test how significant it is.

90 µs (micro-second) pixel transition speed, or less than 0.1ms. Way faster than other display types.

120Hz (selectable) - obvious typo or some strange low resolution capability. It IS interesting that it does list some lower resolutions at 75 Hz, such as 1280 x 1024. Will definitely be interesting testing the over-clock-ability of the different resolutions.

"OLED Monitor Quality and Pixel Policy" link doesn't seem to work.

"Flicker Free On eliminates flickering by doubling the screen frame rate." This one has me a bit worried. It is known that Samsung OLED displays in Laptops use PWM (240Hz) to prevent image retention. The wording of this isn't very clear. Doubling the screen frame rate? \

Holy hell this thing is beautiful.... 5.4ms MPRT at 60 Hz! Gotta love near instant OLED pixels. It double strobes a 60 Hz input at 120 Hz for the great motion clarity.

By the way, neither HDMI 2.0 nor DP 1.2 allows this monitor to go over 60 Hz, at any time, at any refresh rate. It just frame skips. I use DP 1.2 as that allows 10-bit color, which HDMI 2.0 does now allow. Back after more testing...

well if it's using backlight strobing then that is not great but i assume it can be toggled on and off (?) so not a biggie on that front.

There is no backlight with OLED. The strobing of the emissive pixels is by design to help ward off image retention. It also has the side effect of drastically increasing motion clarity. This monitor has no sample-and-hold mode at all. (flicker free).

Drool...

Does it have missing pixels or there are any other defects? With IPS you have backlight bleed or IPS glow for example, any weird ones for OLED?

Get some pictures up when you can :)

Zero defects. Packaging is quite beautiful too. You can tell Dell spent their time with this baby.

Does anyone know how to get into the service menu on a recent Dell display?

@Vega

How have you found gaming to be on it. Not just in terms of what ms, but generally speaking. Do you prefer gaming on it more than an IPS panel.

The double image takes some getting used to, but the motion clarity is definitely better than any regular LCD under 120 Hz not strobing the backlight. There is a tinge of input lag too, and at 60 Hz it won't feel as "snappy and smooth" as 120+ Hz displays. Overall I am quite satisfied, and of course the panel makes games look absolutely gorgeous.

Absolutely zero image retention on mine so far. But I do use the "auto hide taskbar" option.
